About (Bio):
Nathan Maurer, founder of Carved Metal, has always shown a passion for the fantastical, historical, and whimsical. He has designed and created intriguing art and objects for more than 20 years.
Carving, ie. the subtractive method, began as a hobby; it remains a favorite process. Nathan earned a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Illinois in Urbana. He then discovered the plastic arts of metals, sculpture, and jewelry across the campus, and stayed to study under Alan Mette, Mark Rooker, Cecilia Allen and Roger Blakely for another 2 years. The following 9 years were filled with real world designing, sculpting, mold-making, and bench-work at one of the finest independent jewelry retailers in Chicagoland; fine exotic gemstones and precious metals became an everyday experience.
Nathan continues to indulge in powerful narrative forms in an ever diversifying array of materials, creating what will become prized and meaningful artifacts.
